The Science of Baking!-Grades 2-5

In this hands-on class, we'll have fun in the kitchen learning about the amazing scientific things that happen when you bake! We'll learn about the Maillard Reaction, caramelization, and the elements that make baked goods rise in the oven all while baking delicious treats to enjoy! We'll make cookies, cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, and meringue as we explore finding science in our very own kitchens.

Ashley Lostetter


Ashley Lostetter is a Family & Consumer Science teacher at Buffalo High School. She graduated from the University of Minnesota-Morris with degrees in Art History and Studio Art with a media focus in Printmaking. She is now completing a Master of Arts in Teaching program from Minnesota State University - Mankato. Ashley lives in Buffalo with her husband, Nick, their three daughters Harper, Guthrie, & Juniper and a small menagerie of pets. In her spare time, Ashley enjoy reading, thrifting, sewing, art, baking, being outdoors, and spending time with her family.
