Cabinet of Curiosities - The art & science of collecting - Gr. 5-8

Northwest Talent Academy -
NWTA 2026

Step into the world of curiosity and creativity! Inspired by artists Mark Dion and Joseph Cornell, this hands-on art program invites students to explore how collecting, classifying, and storytelling can become forms of art. Throughout the week, students will design, build, and curate their own “Cabinet of Curiosity” - a small box transformed into a personal museum of wonder using found and collected objects. The program blends art, science, and imagination, encouraging students to see beauty and meaning in everyday things.

Ashley Lostetter

Ashley is a Family & Consumer Sciences teacher from Buffalo. Ever since she can remember she has been a collector of all sorts of things from bits of nature to paintings and pottery. Finding creative, meaningful, and interesting ways to display her collections is something she loves to do. Ashley has a BA in both Art History and Studio Arts from the U of M - Morris. She loves art in all its many forms, reading, spending time in nature, thrifting, going to antique stores, and spending time with her family. When she isn't teaching, reading or collecting, Ashley can often be found at Buffalo Books & Coffee as a bookseller. She also sometimes does prop work for Buffalo Community Theater productions.
