In this immersive, inquiry-driven course, young scientists go beyond following recipes to analyze, predict, and experiment as they mix, stir, and transform everyday ingredients into edible investigations. Students uncover the hidden chemistry and physics behind flavor, texture, and transformation—testing variables, refining hypotheses, and drawing conclusions from results they can actually taste. Using safe, familiar kitchen materials, learners experience science as both a creative art and a rigorous discipline. This is not just cooking—it’s a scientific discovery you can eat. Hi! My name is Ashley Wappel, and I am an intervention teacher at Pinewood Elementary in Monticello. I taught at a STEM school and was the Science teacher for our grade level, taught Kindergarten for six years, as well as teaching at a nature center for three years leading outdoor camps for various ages. I grew up in Ely, MN, and I spent A LOT of time outside! I am excited to teach with NWTA this summer and connect with so many students and their families.
